10 Tips for beautiful hair

The experts at HAARZENTRUM AN DER OPER will tell you how to achieve a well-groomed and resistant splendour of hair with little effort.

 1. ADJUST YOUR DIET

The quality of hair can be positively influenced by a balanced, healthy diet. Zinc, biotin and folic acid are crucial, alongside omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins B2, B6 and B12. Perfect hair superfoods are therefore avocados, pulses and fish.

2. NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS HELP

Taking vitamin D is highly recommended, during the winter months in particular. However, good quality nutritional supplements that stimulate hair growth from the inside are also suitable for preventing a general vitamin and nutrient deficiency which is often the result of long periods of stress.

3. REGULAR VISITS TO THE HAIRDRESSER’S

Blow drying and straightening hair or friction (e.g. on clothes) encourage split ends. Once hair is damaged, it is not so easy to repair again. The ends of the hair should be trimmed regularly by a hairdresser to prevent damage early on.

4. WASHING HAIR PROPERLY

Depending on the quality and structure, only wash hair every two to seven days. It’s best to use a shampoo with a slightly acidic pH value. By the way, the water temperature is also crucial and should be about 37 degrees Celsius. As wet hair is sensitive, do not rub the lengths dry under any circumstances, just dab them with a towel.

5. AN EXTRA PORTION OF CARE

With dry hair in particular, the damaged hair structure can be regenerated through regular conditioning treatments. Intensive conditioners supply the outer cuticle layer with proteins and nutrients and make hair shiny. To prevent additional damage, never comb wet hair. It is better to brush out the hair well before washing.

6. DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR SCALP

A healthy scalp with good circulation is a basic requirement for beautiful hair. The scalp can be nourished using special hair products, for example serums, masks or oils. It is best to massage these in using slight pressure. This stimulates the hair roots’ circulation and boosts the applied products’ effect.

7. CONSISTENT SUN PROTECTION

It’s not just skin but also hair that needs appropriate protection in the summer to effectively prevent it from UV-induced damage. Simple headgear that protects hair and the scalp from direct sunlight is suitable for this. Special sun protection products can also prevent the lengths from bleaching.

8. DIAGNOSING HAIR LOSS EARLY

It is normal to lose up to 100 hairs per day. If you should experience a phase with increased hair loss, the so-called tensile test can help. With this, the dermatologist pulls on the hair in several places to assess the hair loss rate. If there is a case of hair loss, then a blood and hair root analysis is essential.

9. AVOIDING TRACTION

Tying hair up tightly can quickly lead to damage and, in the worst case scenario, even tear out hair, especially if you always wear a plait in the same place. Spiral shaped elastic hair ties are therefore ideal as they provide a firm hold without damaging the hair or leaving behind any traces.

10. TREATING SCALP PROBLEMS

Dandruff can be genetic or the result of the wrong hair care. A mild anti-dandruff shampoo provides quick help. Chemical treatments should also be reduced as completely as possible. However, when it comes to serious dandruff, it is always advisable to consult a dermatologist early on.
